Toll Group has unveiled two new Volvo FMe Electric 6x4 Prime Movers that have been introduced into our supply chain fleet to support our client BlueScope Steel with their freight and warehousing capabilities, marking another major step toward decarbonising Australia’s heavy logistics sector.

The new Volvo FMe Electric Prime Movers boast a 270 km range on a single charge and can haul a payload of up to 26.5 tonnes with an annual reduction of 192 tonnes of carbon dioxide, making them ideal for industrial freight applications. These vehicles will operate within BlueScope’s logistics network, helping to reduce emissions, noise, and environmental impact while maintaining the high performance and reliability required for large-scale steel transport.

The initiative is part of Toll Group’s broader strategy to support customers with cleaner, more efficient, and future-ready logistics solutions as part of Toll’s $67 million investment in battery electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure, co-funded with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through its ‘Driving the Nation’ program to implement 28 electric vehicles into fleet. ARENA’s support has been instrumental in enabling Toll to progress this initiative.

“This collaboration with BlueScope reflects our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability,” said Michael Rugendyke, President, Toll Group - Resources & Industrials. “By integrating the Volvo Electric Prime Movers into our operations, we’re demonstrating that electric heavy vehicles are not just a future vision, they’re a viable, real-world solution available today.”

BlueScope’s partnership with Toll on this initiative represents a tangible step forward in its sustainability journey, aligning with both companies’ goals to reduce carbon emissions and embrace next-generation technologies across supply chains. “Decarbonising transport is essential to achieving our climate ambitions,” said Jeff Moore, BlueScope, National Manager Supply Chain. “Working with Toll Group and Volvo Group to introduce these vehicles into our operations allows us to take meaningful action on reducing emissions while continuing to deliver for our customers.”

The two Volvo Electric Prime Movers were unveiled at Toll’s Arndell Park facility in Sydney on Tuesday 14 October 2025, where leadership from Toll, BlueScope, and Volvo gathered to celebrate the milestone and highlight the role of collaboration in accelerating the shift toward sustainable logistics.

The Volvo Electric Prime Movers have begun service this month, transporting steel products between BlueScope facilities in metropolitan Sydney, helping reduce fleet emissions while providing critical data and insights for future low-emission transport projects.
