Transporting Cryogenic Tanks Across Continents

The Challenge

A global supplier of cryogenic tanks engaged us to oversee the complex shipment of five cryogenic tanks from their factory in Rayong, Thailand, to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA. The dimensions of these tanks posed considerable logistical challenges: each measured between 21 and 22 metres in length, up to 5 metres in height, and weighed between 69 tonnes and 119 tonnes. Moving these colossal structures required careful planning, particularly for road transportation in Thailand and vessel loading for transoceanic travel.

The Solution

Our team secured the contract on an ex-works basis in Bangkok, Thailand, and meticulously managed every aspect of the shipment. This began with a detailed preparation of documentation and standard operating procedures, ensuring compliance with road transportation regulations in Thailand, and devising a safe lifting solution for loading the tanks onto the vessel.
Working alongside trusted trucking partners, we utilised multi-axled platform trailers to transport the tanks from the factory to the port of Bangkok. To accommodate the tanks' substantial weight and dimensions, a multipurpose vessel (MPP) was chartered. Equipped with the necessary lifting gear, the vessel safely loaded, stowed, and transported the tanks below deck for the voyage from Thailand to the USA.

Upon arrival at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the tanks were carefully lifted from the vessel's hold and transferred onto waiting platform trailers for the final leg of their journey to their destination in the USA.

Thanks to our team’s expertise in project management, chartering, and logistics coordination across both Thailand and the USA, the cryogenic tanks were delivered successfully. The shipment arrived on time and without incident, ensuring a seamless handover to the client. This case demonstrated our ability to manage intricate logistics and deliver results that exceed expectations.
